Our Club

The Australian Sporting Car Club Inc. (ASCC) was formed in 1930 under the name of the NSW Light Car Club Limited.

It was formed by a group of car enthusiasts who wished to create a Club primarily devoted “to promote and foster the interests of owners of motor cars and free discussion of all matters and questions relating to or affecting the interests of owners of motor cars”. It also undertook the responsible organisation and conduct of all forms of motorsport in New South Wales, including racing at Maroubra and Penrith Speedways and later, Mount Panorama at Bathurst, until all such activities were suspended during World War ll years.

In 1945 the Club’s name was changed to the Australian Sporting Car Club Limited, in view of the expansion of motorsport activities throughout Australia on a wide national level. The ASCC resumed organising racing at Mount Panorama, as well as at Parramatta Park and later, national and international events at the Gnoo Blas Circuit in Orange. In 1953, the ASCC became directly instrumental, as one of the longest established and experienced Clubs in Australia, in the formation of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS). The same year, the Club commenced to organise the Redex and later Ampol Around Australia Trials and was to go further into the realms of fully internationally recognized events with the Club’s South Pacific Road Racing Championship and Southern Cross International Rally Series from 1966 to 1980.
With “a combination of lack of sponsorship money and burnout of rally organisers,” the last rally was held in 1980 and with that, so ceased the activities of the ASCC.

The ASCC as it Currently Operates

After the ensuing period of years during which the ASCC ceased to exist, it was reformed in 2001. It is presently an incorporated “social” motoring club. Its primary focus is not too dissimilar to its origins in 1930, to promote interest in and foster the use, enjoyment, preservation and restoration of historic and modern “sporting” motor vehicles of any make; to promote interest in and foster the use, enjoyment, of current “sporting” motor vehicles of any make; to facilitate the enjoyment of these vehicles by participation in combined social and motoring events and gatherings with other clubs throughout the Central West of New South Wales.

Such combined events will include various regional destinations, barbeques/picnics, technical workshop days and other occasions designed to be of interest to all. In this combined spirit, once strangers soon become friends.
In the past, fellow sporting car enthusiasts have had to seek “kindred spirits” in distant clubs, marque orientated clubs, or more commonly just use their cars occasionally on their own for enjoyment.
Invitations are extended to all other like-minded owners of sporting cars, when and wherever met, to share in this spirit, irrespective of the fact that they may already be a member of a club associated with a particular marque or personal interest.

The Club publishes a monthly newsletter, detailing coming Club events. The newsletter also includes events run by other organisations where ASCC members are invited to participate. The newsletter is either mailed to members or electronically provided through email. An electronic copy will be placed on the club’s website, the “Australian Sporting Car Club Inc.”   Club members and new members joining the Club will be advised to access the Constitution and associated Bylaws and ensure they are conversant with the contents thereof.

The Club also has a Facebook page under the same title which provides access to all newsletters, forms and a photo library. All members are invited and encouraged to join this Facebook Group. A notification service for those members with an email address provides reminders of events and “short notice” alerts.

This Constitution and associated Bylaws provides the guidelines to ensure the management of the Club is carried out consistent with the legislation and requirements of the Roads and Maritime Services of New South Wales (RMS), the NSW Department of Fair Trading, the Australian Confederation of Motor Clubs (ACMC) and the Southern Motoring Association (SMA).
